Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag ‘considering dropping Casemiro for Manchester derby’

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly considering leaving out Casemiro for this weekend’s derby against neighbours Manchester City. The Brazil star could be omitted from the starting XI even if he is fit to play.

Casemiro had started every match in all competitions for United this season before Saturday’s trip to Sheffield United. He missed the game at Bramall Lane due to a minor injury picked up on international duty.

The 31-year-old stayed behind in Brazil to recover from the issue but will return to England this week. Casemiro is already set to sit out of Tuesday’s Champions League match at home to Copenhagen due to suspension.

He got sent off in the last group match against Galatasaray. But there could be worse news for the former Real Madrid star at the weekend.

United welcome City to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon in a crunch clash. But GiveMeSport claims that Ten Hag is considering leaving Casemiro out of his side even if he proves his fitness.

Casemiro has almost been a first choice for Ten Hag since he signed him in his first window in charge. But he could face the axe in the biggest game of the season so far.

The report says Casemiro’s form so far this term has been a ‘major concern’ for Ten Hag. Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat started in midfield on Saturday and could both keep their places.

McTominay has made himself almost undroppable after scoring three goals in his last two appearances for United, including the late brace to beat Brentford before the international break. Amrabat was forced to play at left-back in his first few outings for his new club but took his chance in midfield on Saturday.

Ten Hag dropped a hint he was not completely satisfied with Casemiro’s form after replacing him with Christian Eriksen at half-time of the comeback win over Brentford. On the substitution, Ten Hag said: “I wanted more football.

“One who brings passing, distribution, link-up play. So I thought bring Christian Eriksen for Case.”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been a vocal critic of Casemiro this season. Last week he told Covering Liverpool: “I think Casemiro’s legs have gone.

“I noticed it last season at Anfield and I didn’t like what I saw. It took me back to watching Fabinho last year for Liverpool. I want to be the first to say it, I don’t want to say it when everyone else is saying his legs have gone.”
