Mykhailo Mudryk has become the latest Chelsea player resigned to the treatment table after picking up an injury in training. 

The winger is the ninth Blues player currently ruled out of action and follows the likes of Reece James and Carney Chukwuemeka, who sustained injuries in their first two league games. 

As well as Wesley Fofana and Christopher Nkunku, who are recovering from longer term issues picked up ahead of the campaign. 

Using valuations of Chelsea academy graduates from the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), and the transfer fees for those bought by the club, the value of all the player’s currently sidelined amounts to a staggering £368milllion. 

With Benoit Badiashile, Marcus Bettinelli, Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah joining the ranks of unavailable stars.

With a squad that remains strikingly threadbare in certain areas, despite their unprecedented level of spending, Mauricio Pochettino faces more selection headaches ahead of Friday night’s game against Luton. 

The new Chelsea boss will be hoping to bag his first win against the newly-promoted outfit, who make the trip to Stamford Bridge with an additional weeks worth of preparation following the postponement of their fixture against Burnley. 

A sizable portion of the former Tottenham manager’s brief was to address Chelsea’s woeful attacking output. And though Mudryk’s profligacy certainly played a part in their troubles last term, his absence markedly reduces the options. 

Even more pressure will now be on new signing Nicolas Jackson to break his scoring duck, while the rejuvenated Raheem Sterling will be expected to chip in with similar numbers to those he registered while at Manchester City.
