Napoli signing Jesper Lindstrom has revealed why he turned down a ‘dream’ move to Liverpool to join the Serie A champions.
The 23-year-old Danish international completed a £25m move to the Italian side from Eintracht Frankfurt last week.
Lindstrom reportedly had other offers on the table including an approach from Liverpool – who were considering multiple midfield options in the final weeks of the transfer window before eventually landing Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich on deadline day.
The midfielder has revealed to Danish newspaper Tipsbladet, as per Football Italia, that despite being a fan of Liverpool, he joined Napoli to get regular first-team football.
When asked about receiving an approach from a separate team to Napoli, he said: ‘It was Liverpool and I am a Liverpool supporter, so it would’ve been a madly fascinating experience, but would it have been an intelligent move?

‘If I don’t play, then I may as well sit in front of the TV and watch them play there while I’m at a different club. I’m at an age now where I have to play football.
‘This is why I think Napoli represents a good change. It is one of the best clubs in the world and they said I will have many opportunities to play.’
Lindstrom put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Napoli, where he will reportedly earn £2.2m per season.
At Eintracht Frankfurt, he scooped up the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Season award for 2021-22, and he has scored 14 goals in 80 league appearances.
He has also been handed 10 caps for Denmark, registering his first international goal in a friendly against Serbia in 2022.
Liverpool, despite missing out on Lindstrom and a number of other targets including Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, have completely revamped their midfield this summer.
The Reds spent £145m on the arrivals of Gravenberch, Dominic Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo, with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and James Milner all leaving Anfield over the summer.
