Man Utd takeover round-up as Sheikh Jassim sends strong nine-word message

Man Utd's five worst decisions since Erik ten Hag took over

November will mark an entire year since the Glazer family announced a strategic review to explore investment options, including a potential sale of Manchester United. Yet it remains uncertain whether the conclusion is in sight as the unpopular American owners continue to delay their final decision.

Despite intensifying protests among the club’s supporters and increasing frustration between bidders, the Glazers have prolonged the process as they weigh up their options.

Express Sport looks at the latest United takeover updates as Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe await a significant development.

Sheikh Jassim sends strong message

Ratcliffe is reportedly exploring potential minority investment, which would see the Glazers retain control at Old Trafford but likely start a phased full takeover.

But Sheikh Jassim is said to want nothing less than 100 per cent of United and isn’t showing many signs of improving his £5billion bid.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Sheikh Jassim’s camp has told the Glazers: “You either give us everything, or we’re walking away!”

The Qatari royal appears to consider talk of Ratcliffe revising his offer for just a 25 per cent stake as another tactic to increase competitive tension.

Ratcliffe receives financial boost

Meanwhile, in the British billionaire’s corner, Ratcliffe has secured a financial boost by taking a share of a £75m dividend through the Mercedes F1 team’s significant profits.

Mercedes F1 are among Ratcliffe’s sporting empire, which features football clubs OGC Nice and FC Lausanne-Sport, cycling’s Team INEOS, and sailing’s INEOS Team UK.

On Tuesday, Mercedes F1’s accounts showed a 24 per cent increase in revenues to £474.6m from the 2022 season. Pre-tax profits rocketed to £113m compared to £72m from the previous reporting period.

Ratcliffe is the UK’s second richest man but will welcome any good financial news he can get as he looks to fend off competition to acquire United.

Fans snub Glazer protest demand

Finally, members of United’s Fans’ Forum reportedly ignored a demand from supporter group ‘The 1958’ to boycott Tuesday’s key meeting with club executives.

The 1958 are the brains behind most of the protests against the Glazer family, and recently branded the meetings as ‘a tool for manipulation and deception’ by the Glazers.

But the Mail claim United fans attended the meeting, which chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough often attend.

Despite ignoring a boycott of the latest meeting, the club’s chiefs and owners have been warned that patience is ‘running thin’.
