Ten Hag insists Man Utd have plenty to play for after European exit
Jadon Sancho could remain at Manchester United beyond the January transfer window as Erik ten Hag struggles to offload the banished winger, according to reports. Sancho seems destined to end his disappointing Old Trafford career in the New Year, but United have encountered three issues that could mean he stays put.
The 23-year-old has trained with the reserves at Carrington since being exiled from Ten Hag’s first team at the start of September.
He was punished for effectively calling Ten Hag a liar on social media after the Dutchman claimed he had been excluded from the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal due to poor training performances.
The United boss has regularly stated that Sancho “knows what to do” if he wants to return to the frame, which is reportedly as simple as a sincere apology for sparking the spat.
However, that hasn’t arrived, which has spelt the end of Sancho’s disastrous United career after joining in a £73million deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
He landed in M16 as one of Europe’s most promising young forwards two years ago but has never got going and is unlikely to represent the club again while Ten Hag is in charge.
Sancho and United face frustration in January, though, amid struggles to find realistic suitors due to three prominent issues.

According to The Sun, United’s attempts to offload Sancho have become a nightmare despite the club, manager and player’s desire to seal a deal.
The Old Trafford giants are said to have been working “flat out” to get an exit in place, but they have received no firm offers, a common issue when trying to cash in on fringe players on excessive salaries over the past decade.
The report claims that Sancho’s wages, reportedly worth £350,000 a week, are deterring interested clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. There are also said to be suitors in Spain and Italy.
Dortmund also fear that Sancho wouldn’t be able to hit the ground running if he returned to the Westfalenstadion, considering he has been sidelined for almost four months.

United have restricted their options further by rebuffing any approaches from Premier League clubs over a potential loan. The Red Devils don’t want to lend a player of Sancho’s calibre to a direct rival.
It’s a situation described as “increasingly untenable”, and the report adds the prospective investor, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is particularly keen to resolve the situation.
However, as it stands, Sancho looks likely to remain at United beyond the winter transfer window, which wouldn’t be in the best interests of any party.
If that’s the case, Ten Hag may be forced to soften his stance and allow the England international to return to contention, perhaps at the request of Sir Jim and INEOS.
