Lindelof will be available for Man United despite Brussels ordeal
Victor Lindelof WILL be available for Manchester United’s trip to Sheffield United despite Sweden’s ordeal in Brussels after a terrorist shot dead two of their fans
- Two Swedish fans were shot dead and a third injured in Brussels terror attack
- Lindelof played in Belgium vs Sweden Euro qualifier that was abandoned
- But despite the ordeal, Lindelof is available for Saturday’s trip to Bramall Lane
Victor Lindelof will be available for Manchester United’s game at Sheffield United on Saturday night despite being caught up in the terrorist atrocity in Brussels in midweek.
Two Swedish fans were shot dead and another injured in the random attack by a lone gunman before Sweden’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Belgium.
The match was subsequently abandoned and will not be replayed, with Sweden captain Lindelof having led the calls not to play again.
Although the United defender has had a terrible ordeal and suffered from lack of sleep this week, manager Erik ten Hag revealed that he will be available to play at Bramall Lane.
‘It’s a terrible situation and sad for the victims and the relatives, family and friends of the victims there in Brussels. It’s a crazy world,’ said Ten Hag.

Swedish supporters were kept in the stadium until 4am by Belgian police following the attack
‘Of course, Victor had a problem, it’s a bad experience. As Sweden national team, he was the captain, he had to stay in front and give statements but he dealt with it.
‘He’s exhausted after it. He didn’t sleep overnight. He returned and yesterday [Thursday] he was back in training. He dealt with the situation.
‘Our thoughts are with Victor, the victims’ relatives and the victims. Victor has energy and is ready to play this game.’
The other options to play alongside Raphael Varane in central defence are Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire who impressed last time out against Brentford before playing in England’s Euro 2024 win over Italy.
Maguire appears to be emerging from a difficult period in which he was sometimes booed by his own fans for club and country.
‘I’ve not heard it,’ added Ten Hag. ‘All of the fans were supportive for us against Brentford and the games before. I think we have a strong bond with the fans.
‘I don’t think Harry is booed. He doesn’t deserve it. His performance against Brentford and for England he were very good.’

French defender Raphael Varane is likely to start the match in South Yorkshire on Saturday
Maguire will be returning to his old club Sheffield United who sit bottom of the Premier League table but will be relishing the chance to plunge United back into crisis mode.
‘Every game in Premier League is difficult,’ added Ten Hag. ‘If you have seen their results against Man City and Spurs, they were very narrow wins. If you don’t play your best football, you can have a loss.
‘We won our last game away (at Burnley) so finally it’s not about that. You can’t figure out the past and last year we were third in the league. We won a cup and we were in another final. We live in the future, we have to change the future.’
