Leeds ‘unhappy’ as Man City poach 15-year-old talent for British transfer record

Leeds United have begrudgingly agreed to sell 15-year-old talent Finley Gorman to Manchester City for a British record fee, according to reports.

Gorman has attracted interest from the Premier League champions in recent months thanks to performances beyond his years. He became the youngest-ever player to score twice in a Prem under-18 fixture last season.

And his showings for Leeds' academy earned him his England U16 debut earlier this season, when he was still only 14. The Athletic broke this week that City have had a fee in excess of £1million accepted.

The seven-figure sum is a British record for a player of his age and while the deal is yet to be completed, the attacking midfielder is expected to make the move to the Etihad.

Leeds Live claim the Championship side aren't happy to see him leave given his huge potential. They're said to have tried their best to convince him to stay.

But having visited City's training complex, Gorman had his heart set on leaving. As he isn't eligible to sign a professional contract until he turns 17 in September 2025, Leeds had little control over the matter.

It's believed as well as the up front fee, they're in line to receive a number of future performance bonuses should Gorman progress as hoped and break through into the first team set-up.

Videos of him starring on the pitch had gone viral on social media as they were shared by excited Leeds fans, who are understandably frustrated to be losing one of the countries top prospects.

City are making a habit of splashing the cash on teenagers. They snapped up Harrison Parker, 16 and Luca Fletcher, 16 from Manchester United and Reading respectively earlier this year for six-figure sums.
