Ipswich star scores ‘beautiful’ trivela goal that leaves footy fans speechless

Ipswich Town’s Wes Burns scored a ‘beautiful’ trivela against Coventry City in the Tractor Boys’ Championship win on Saturday.

Former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna saw his side race back onto the heels of Leicester City at the top of the Championship thanks to first half goals from George Hirst and Burns to secure a 2-1 win against last season’s beaten play-off finalists.

Hirst’s opener came just six minutes in to set Ipswich on their way before Burns produced a piece of magic just minutes before half-time. The Wales international received the ball on the right wing before feinting and turning inside of the defender and driving towards the goal.

Burns travelled under very little pressure before he reached the outside of the box and produced a finish that ex-Chelsea and Portugal international ‘king of the trivela’ Ricardo Quaresma would be proud of. The 29-year-old’s outside of the boot strike started well outside of the far post before curling back in and kissing the post on its way into the top corner.

The goal sparked wild celebrations in the stands and left fans stunned on social media. One fan on Twitter said: “Most players cannot do that with the inside of their foot”, a second wrote: “That’s goal otm sorted December.” A third added: “I know this man plays fifa, IRL that it's beautiful”. While a fourth said: “Lads that f***ing outstanding!”

Ipswich were able to hold on for the three points after an own goal from on loan Manchester United defender Brandon Williams saw Coventry cut Ipswich’s lead in the 96th minute, but it was too little, too late for the visitors as Burns’ strike fittingly turned out to be the winner.

The Tractor Boys closed the gap back to Leicester at the top of the table to a point while their seven point cushion over Leeds below them in 3rd remains.
