Frustrated Man Utd star Mount will be even more upset after fresh development

Ten Hag believes Man Utd are on the up ahead of Everton trip

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has suffered another setback in his attempts to settle at Old Trafford after he was forced to undergo an assessment on his latest injury problem. The £60million summer signing has ultimately struggled to make an impact since his big-money move from Chelsea in July, and this fresh development is only likely to increase his frustration as he is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

On Friday, Mount underwent tests with United’s medical team to ascertain just how long he will be out for after picking up a calf injury, and he is set to be dealt another cruel blow to his hopes of making an impact under Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman told the club’s website: “Mason picked up an issue so we have to assess if he’s available for the game or not.” However, he will miss the game against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday and it is expected that he will be out for a month – at a time where United have been left short of options in midfield.

The 24-year-old is yet to contribute a goal or assist in the Premier League this season in eight appearances and has featured for a total of 401 minutes. The attacking midfielder has started only one of his last six games for United and that was the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

Mount sustained a injury against Tottenham just weeks after his move to Manchester and he has rarely looked like the player who was influential in helping Chelsea win the Champions League two years ago.

He left the Blues after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract at Stamford Bridge and United came calling, with Ten Hag making him his first signing of the summer.

But while the west London club have thrived with his replacement Cole Palmer, the move hasn’t worked out for Mount just yet. The Athletic reported earlier in November that the stop-start nature of his season has left the player feeling frustrated.

After returning to fitness, Mount has been forced to settle for a bit-part role and five of his last six appearances have come as a substitute. He has been forced to play in unfamiliar positions as a deeper central midfielder and only the right wing while Antony was out of the team.

Despite his obvious disappointment with how his United move has worked out so far, it is understood the England international doesn’t miss life at Chelsea and is determined to succeed with the Red Devils. The report also says Mount is loving playing in front of big crowds and people close to the player say he is not missing Chelsea as much as they thought he would.

He does also not feel weighted down by the expectation that comes with the No 7 shirt, which was previously worn by United icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Eric Cantona. But his body language has suggested otherwise, with Mount often bereft of confidence when he steps out in a United shirt.
