Sir Dave Brailsford is poised to start work at Manchester United.

And the news will confirm Sir Jim Ratcliffe has completed a deal to own 25% of the English giants. United have refused to comment on the process.

But it's understood Ratcliffe has paid owners the Glazers £1.4billion for his stake in United. Ratcliffe and his team wanted to announce the deal on Monday, but agreed to hold off due to the fact Sir Bobby Charlton's funeral will take place in Manchester.

But an official announcement could well be confirmed on Tuesday, to coincide with the opening of the New York stock market. And Daily Star Sport has been told Brailsford will be at the club's Carrington training base on Monday to meet staff and those players not on international duty.

The former British Cycling supremo will take a new role that will see him be in charge of elite performance. Brailsford is keen to conduct an overhaul of issues including Erik ten Hag's training methods and schedules, nutrition, fitness programmes and even the players' sleep patterns.

Part of Brailsford's brief is to produce players in maximum physical condition, to boost their chances of performing on the pitch. Brailsford will adopt a similar blueprint to the one he introduced at French club Nice, which is also owned by Ratcliffe's company Ineos.

Brailsford is currently Ineos director of sport and works alongside fellow company chief Ratcliffe at the petrochemicals giant.

Meanwhile, United entered the international break in sixth position in the Premier League. Their narrow 1-0 win over Luton Town saw them move within five points of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

When club football returns, United travel to Merseyside to face an improving Everton side, before flying to Turkey for an intimidating away Champions League clash against Galatasaray.
