Andy Carroll 'is on the brink of a surprise move to France'

Reading’s Andy Carroll is in talks over surprise move to France as former Liverpool and Newcastle striker heads for medical ahead of switch to Ligue 2 side Amiens’

Reading striker Andy Carroll in talks over a move to French club Amiens SC. 

Carroll has travelled to France ahead of sealing a switch to the Ligue 2 club. 

Carroll re-joined Reading in September last year having previously played for the Royals between November 2021 and January 2022.

The 34-year-old has less than a year remaining on his current contract and is now set to play for a foreign club for the first time in his career.  

Across his two spells at Reading, Carroll has made 42 appearances, while he has scored eleven goals.

Another French club, Lyon are exploring a move for Leeds striker Georginio Rutter. 

Rutter signed for Leeds in January from Hoffenheim for a club record fee rising to £36million. He has scored just once in 17 games for Leeds.

Carroll started Reading’s first two fixtures in League One this season but wasn’t involved in their next three games.

The former England international made nine appearances for his country between 2010 and 2012, scoring twice.

In addition to Reading, Carroll has played for many other clubs during his lengthy career, representing Newcastle (twice), Preston, Liverpool, West Ham (twice) and West Brom. 

Amiens finished in 12th place in Ligue 2 last season.
