England rugby captain Owen Farrell ‘upset’ Henry Arundell after using expletive

Rugby World Cup: George tells England to relish Fiji clash

England captain Owen Farrell left Henry Arundell upset after making a foul-mouthed remark to the youngster in training, according to reports. The pair are said to have fallen out during their Rugby World Cup camp in France after an alleged ‘scrap’ occurred between them, and the incident that led to the alleged altercation has now come to light after Arundell was left unhappy with Farrell’s demands of him.

Reports claim that Arundell, 20, was left ‘visibly upset’ after he was allegedly told to ‘chase those f***ing kicks’ by experienced captain Farrell during a training session prior to the World Cup.

It is also claimed that Farrell’s demands and confrontational style led to ’emotions running high’ in one isolated incident.

However, all parties are said to have issued a strong denial in response to claims made by ex-England fly-half Andy Goode. The former international suggested Arundell had been kept out of the team following a ‘scrap’ with Farrell, 32, in training in a recent appearance on The Rugby Pod.

But the Daily Mail quote a source who apparently retains knowledge of what happened and suggests Arundell had not been targeted by Farrell for special treatment.

On the contrary, the skipper’s high standards mean he demands the same efforts from all of his team-mates, and it has also been dismissed that Steve Borthwick had kept Arundell out of the team because of the alleged incident. On this occasion, he had been instructing Arundell to raise his intensity in training before the World Cup had started.

The leaking of the alleged fight has created an unwanted distraction for England as they prepare for their clash against Fiji on Sunday.

But it appears Borthwick’s thinking in selecting his team has not been swayed by the uncertainty over harmony in the camp.

Farrell, who is England’s record points scorer and a 109-cap veteran, will start ahead of George Ford in Marseille.

Yet Arundell is unlikely to be included in the starting 15 for the quarterfinal against Fiji. The Racing 92 player has not featured for England since his five-try display in the 71-0 victory over Chile.

It remains to be seen if the fullback will be included in the matchday 23 either.
