Federer tactic is Alcaraz’s ‘biggest ick’ as Djokovic admits what annoys him
Tennis fans react to Carlos Alcaraz's Wimbledon win
A tactic deployed by Roger Federer is Carlos Alcaraz’s biggest ‘ick’. Tennis stars including Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic have been asked for their biggest ‘ick’ – something that seriously irritates them – when they are on the court.
Alcaraz has revealed that the most annoying trait among his colleagues is a ‘serve and volley’ approach to their playing style. It involves serving before racing to the net to be prepared for a volley.
The tactic was adopted to huge success by tennis icon Federer during his glittering career. The Swiss, who retired last year, won 20 Grand Slams playing with that particular style.
However, Alcaraz has revealed that the serve and volley tactic gives him the ‘ick’. As part of a video produced by the US Open’s official media channel, players were asked what their tennis ‘ick’ is.
Wimbledon champion Alcaraz bluntly responded: “Serve and volley!”

But his colleagues had a range of other suggestions. Djokovic, who was beaten by Alcaraz in July’s Wimbledon final, revealed that the most annoying trait of his opponents is grunting and making too much noise.
Djokovic laughed at the question before admitting: “Grunting. Too much noise. I get annoyed by that.”
Several other stars claimed that the biggest ‘ick’ is when they are forced to wait for too long between points. Daniil Medvedev admitted he falls under that category.
The Russian star said: “I generally am someone who gets ready fast for the points. So, in general, I just get bored when people get ready for the serve too long. I stay there in return just like, ‘okay, let’s wait, let’s wait, let’s wait.
“But it’s normal. We have timings. Someone takes more time and someone takes less.”

However, Iga Swiatek had a different take on taking a long time. She said she prefers to grab her towel after a long rally, rather than immediately begin the next point.
Swiatek said: “After a really long rally when they rush to start the next point after like two seconds, you know? And I have no time to grab my towel or anything.”
The US Open begins on Monday with stars set to compete for the final Grand Slam of the year. Djokovic will hope to get revenge over Alcaraz for their enthralling Wimbledon bout during the summer.
