Spring Stakes hope the Real deal
Clarry Conners has Group 1 plans for Real Peace in the new year so there’s unsurprisingly an air of confidence about the trainer heading into Saturday’s Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle.
A multiple Group 1 winning horseman, Conners knows a good horse when he sees one and believes Real Peace fits the mould as he looks to end his spring preparation on a high note in $160,000 stakes contest.
“I was out watching him the other day and I thought ‘my god, he’s something nice this horse’,” Conners said.
“He is still furnishing but I think when he comes back in the autumn he is going to be a really nice horse.
“We will look at races like the Derby and I think the Rosehill Guineas will be right up his alley.”
Real Peace is still only lightly-raced with six starts to his name, winning once and placing twice.
The untapped son of Real Impact went from a maiden victory at the provincials to contesting the $1 million Bondi Stakes and was far from disgraced in the lucrative Randwick feature.

The classy chestnut made up good ground closest to the fence when finishing third behind Peltzer and Prime Star over the mile.
“I thought he ran a terrific race under the circumstances,” Conners said.
“He got a fair way back on the heavy track and drew too good so was on the fence but it was pretty dug up by the time the race jumped.
“I was happy with his run and think he probably finishes second with one more stride.”
Real Peace is a $5 second elect with TAB.com.au with star apprentice Tom Sherry booked for the ride.
“We have left the boy (Sherry) on. He won on him and has does nothing wrong so far,” Conners said.
“If they perform well, why take them off.
“It looks to be a winnable race although it got a bit tougher with a couple of Chris Waller’s coming into it when nominations were extended.
“The Newcastle track should suit him. He is a no hassles horse with a nice future.”
Real Peace will jump from barrier three on the weekend.
