Robin Goodfellow’s racing tips: Best bets for Saturday, September 16

Mail Sport‘s racing expert Robin Goodfellow delivers his tips for Saturday’s meeting at Doncaster, Chester, Bath, Lingfield and Musselburgh.

Call Me Ginger (nb) looks to hold strong claims of a repeat victory in the Portland Handicap (Doncaster, 2.25) with the Jim Goldie trained seven-year-old arriving in good form following wins at Chester and Ascot on his previous two starts. 

The gelding defied odds of 20-1 to win the race last year off a mark of 89 under Amie Waugh and he runs here off only a 2lb higher mark.

The best bet of the day comes in the shape of Delagate This Lord (Bath, 4.0, nap), whose most recent five victories have all come over course and distance. The nine-year-old won his first two starts for Robyn Brisland before getting trapped wide from a poor draw here a month ago.

The gelding is drawn a lot better in Stall 5 for this race and he can record his eighth course success.
