Who will win the first Test?

Day two match report: Green stars for Australia after stormy start to day two in Galle

Seven balls into day two, it seemed Australia’s cricketers might be about to face a repeat of their 2016 Sri Lankan nightmare.

The ball was spinning like a top, Travis Head had just miscued a tame return catch and the visitors were still 112 runs short of Sri Lanka’s tally with only six wickets remaining.

What happened next may in years to come be considered one of the more significant days in the development of the team, and in particular its next great generational talent: Cameron Green.

By the close of a day’s play, reduced by a third due to a wild morning storm that destroyed a temporary stand at Galle International Stadium, Pat Cummins’ team was 8-313 and in possession of a 101-run lead.

The chaos of Steve Smith’s run out the previous evening had become a footnote next to Green’s giant strides.

Hello and welcome
