Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo had to call the police after being confronted by angry Roma fans following his transfer request.

The midfielder asked to leave Roma, which prompted a furious reaction from some of the club’s supporters.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has left Zaniolo out of the squad for the last three matchdays following his transfer request.

Mourinho said: ‘It has been a month since the player said that he wants to leave.

‘After Spezia, I gave them a day off and an optional training session.

‘All those who didn’t play came to work and these are the ones we want.

‘If a player tells everyone that he doesn’t want to wear the Roma shirt, I have to say that he stays in spite of me.

‘What I can say today is that Zaniolo will not be in Naples and I focus on those who will be.’

According to Calciomercato, Roma ultras gathered outside Zaniolo’s house following the 2-1 defeat to Napoli.

It is reported that they sang: ‘S**t! If we lost it’s all your fault. Go away!’.

The police were called, with the ultras subsequently dispersing.

Zaniolo’s mother Francesca Costa stated that the hatred of her son is ‘excessive’. A message on a wall in Trigoria read: ‘Zaniolo executioner, your mother is a great s**t.’

Francesca said: ‘Having originated all this hatred seems a little excessive to me.’

Ultras reportedly showed up outside Zaniolo’s house following Roma’s defeat against Napoli

Tottenham and AC Milan reportedly backed away from negotiations because of Roma’s asking price.  

Zaniolo infuriated Roma by rejecting a move to Bournemouth despite the prospect of a major pay rise. 

Bournemouth were eager to quickly wrap up a £26.4million deal – matching Roma’s asking price – but Zaniolo refusing to sit round the negotiating table, according to Sky Sport Italia.
