What Wayne Rooney told Man Utd stars about Bruno Fernandes after FA Cup clash
Wayne Rooney reportedly told Manchester United players Bruno Fernandes was going to be a huge player for them and likened the rising star to Paul Scholes.
Derby were dumped out of the FA Cup by United last Thursday, with Rooney captaining the Rams against his former side.
Fernandes played a starring role in United’s 3-0 win over Derby and left a lasting impression on Rooney.
The Sun claim Rooney was full of praise for Fernandes after the game and told his former team-mates it was difficult to get near the dynamic playmaker at times during the game.
Rooney assured the United players they were a good team and they have a talisman with Fernandes now at the club.
Fernandes joined United from Sporting Lisbon in January and Rooney compared the 25-year-old to Old Trafford legend Scholes.
Rooney played alongside Scholes in superb trophy-winning United sides and the current crop of players told Derby skipper they were excited to have Fernandes in their side, feeling he had restored a buzz around the club.
Fernandes has been an instant hit with fans and players and reportedly was demanding the ball in his very first training session at United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on Fernandes since his arrival at the club and insisted he wasn’t surprised by his impact.
‘I’m not surprised [about his impact] because I saw what he can do on the pitch and his leadership qualities,’ the United boss said.
‘If you do your due diligence and speak to people who knew his personality, we hoped he’d have this influence but couldn’t be 100 per cent sure. ‘Some players take six months but the point was to get him in because of the quality.
‘He relishes it, he loves being around the place, gives everyone a boost and has an aura.’
