Kalvin Phillips is reportedly expected to depart Manchester City in the January transfer window.
Phillips arrived at the Etihad in 2022 riding a wave of momentum having cemented his place in the starting XI for England, appearing in all seven games as Gareth Southgate’s side reached the final of the European Championships.
However, despite City paying £45m to sign the midfielder, Phillips would have to wait until May to make his first Premier League start for the club, at which point the league title was already secured.
Despite dealing with multiple injuries Pep Guardiola has again been reluctant to start Phillips in the league this season and he has so far been limited to three appearances from the bench.
So far Phillips’ sole start of the current campaign for City came in the EFL Cup as Guardiola’s side were unceremoniously dumped out of the competition in the third round by last season’s finalists Newcastle.

Speculation linking the Leeds academy graduate with a move away from the club has been ongoing for some time now, but according to a report from Fabrizio Romano a move away could be imminent.
Both Phillips and the club are said to regard a departure in the January window as ‘very likely’ at this stage, with the desire to once again play regular football reportedly a priority for Phillips moving forward.
Though has found himself on the fringes at club level, Southgate’s faith in the 27-year-old has not appeared to waver in the 16 months since his ill-fated move.
Phillips has featured in four of England’s last five games in all competitions, and even netted his first international goal in the 7-0 thrashing of North Macedonia back in June.
With another major tournament creeping over the horizon, it is no surprise that Phillips make look to revitalise his career away from Manchester in order to stake his claim for a spot on the plane to Germany next summer.
