We have reached the midway point of the January transfer window and things are getting very interesting indeed as Premier League sides begin to make their moves. Newcastle United have already been busy, snapping up Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood so far.

But the Magpies are not expected to finish there, with a number of further signings expected as they desperately attempt to claw themselves away from the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are yet to open their chequebook, but given another disappointing result in the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at the weekend it is abundantly clear that they need reinforcements.

The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham will also surely add at least one new player to their squads before the window slams shut on January 31.

And we could well see movement today as chairmen all around the country start to put plans into place.

Arsenal’s Arthur alternatives

Arsenal may need to look elsewhere for a new midfielder with Juventus reluctant to let Arthur Melo leave without first bringing in a replacement.

One possible option they could turn to is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria, who is thought to be available for a price as low as £6million this month.

Another potentially available player is Gini Wijnaldum, The Dutchman, despite his connections to Newcastle, is said to prefer a move to a London club if he is to depart PSG on loan and Arsenal are an option.

Man Utd prioritise Bellingham

Manchester United chief John Murtough has reportedly named the club’s top transfer target as the clock ticks down on the January transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Borussia Dortmund youngster Jude Bellingham is the club’s no. 1 pick to bolster United’s midfield, which is expected to receive some heavy investment at the end of the season.

It remains to be seen whether or not United go for him this month or in the summer, but Bellingham would certainly be an exciting addition.
