Tottenham’s masterplan to hijack Arsenal’s bid to sign £60m man Dusan Vlahovic

Tottenham Hotspur are plotting to hijack Arsenal’s plan to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, according to reports.

The Serbian hitman is the top goal scorer in Serie A having netted 16 goals and contributed three assists in 20 league appearances.

Vlahovic has entrenched himself as one of the best strikers in Europe at Vincenzo Italiano’s side, who are currently seventh in the table.

His predatory finishing and terrifying goalscoring instinct has attracted the attention of some of Europe’s top sides, but Arsenal have made the biggest statement of intent by submitting a bid of £46m and Lucas Torreira.

However, Antonio Conte’s side could be looking to derail Mikel Arteta’s transfer plans, as they too are believed to be keen on the Serbian star.

Reports from Football.London understand Arsenal technical director Edu has made a “continued push” to sign the 21-year-old hitman.

The Gunners are looking to find a long-term replacement for jettisoned former captain Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, as well as Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, whose contracts expire at the end of the season.

But Tottenham could throw a spanner in their plans, as they have an edge over their fierce rivals in the transfer battle for the Serbian international.

Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici has reportedly maintained a close relationship with Vlahovic’s representatives from his days at Juventus.

Sources also claim a deal between Spurs and Fiorentina could be struck in the summer, when Vlahovic enters the final year of his contract.

This would be an enormous blow to Arteta, who recently emphasised Arsenal’s intention to refresh their squad in the winter window.

“I think with the amount of things and the way that we want to evolve the squad, we have to maximise every window in many different ways and we are alert," Arteta said before their FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forrest.

“[Technical director] Edu and his team are working very hard because we know exactly what we need to do, and whether we can accomplish that in January or in the summer, is a different question as it is related to other stuff.”
