Tottenham ‘preparing offer’ to make Uruguay star Caceres first January signing
Ange Postecoglou hails Tottenham’s ‘outstanding’ pressing in win over Fulham
Tottenham are already preparing to launch a bid for make their first signing of the January transfer window as Ange Postecoglou targets another addition to his squad. Reports suggest the Premier League leaders are keen on capturing Uruguay international Sebastian Caceres as Postecoglou puts his scouting network to use to unearth another gem from outside of Europe.
Caceres begun his career with Liverpool Montevideo in his native Uruguay before signing for Mexican outfit Club America in 2020. He has made nearly 100 appearances for the Liga MX side and has won seven caps for Uruguay, and is now thought to be keen on furthering his career in Europe.
According to Mexican outlet Record, Tottenham are one of several clubs to have made their interest clear in the Uruguayan defender and are ‘closely monitoring his development’.
El Universal suggest an opening bid is forthcoming from Spurs, with the north London club hoping to wrap up the deal quickly. America may be open to cashing in while they can, with Caceres’ contract due to expire in December 2024 and he would be able to negotiate a free transfer from July 1 next summer.

Manchester United, Newcastle United, Fulham and West Ham have all been mentioned as possible suitors for Caceres, though, and they may face competition if the deal is not completed by the time the January transfer market opens. In addition to several English teams queuing up for him, Caceres is also wanted by La Liga strugglers Sevilla and Brazilian side Flamengo.
It is understood Postecoglou wants another defender to bolster his options with uncertainty clouding Eric Dier’s future. The England international has not featured for a single minute in their eight games this season and looks likely to be heading out the door come January, with reports linking him with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Caceres regarded as a cheap and experienced alternative – and with Postecoglou’s summer arrivals proving to be shrewd acquisitions so far, he is likely to be backed again.

The £17million spent on goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario looks to be money well spent, while centre-back Micky van de Ven has settled quickly into the Spurs backline alongside Cristian Romero.
