Tottenham flop Tanguy Ndombele’s agents are reportedly in direct contact with PSG over a loan move, although a stubborn demand made by Spurs could prove a stumbling block between now and the end of the month. Ndombele has struggled to stamp his authority on Spurs’ midfield since his lucrative switch back in 2019.

The Frenchman arrived at Spurs under the weight of great expectations after commanding a club record fee which could rise above £60million.

Exciting times looked to be on the horizon for both Ndombele and the club when he scored on his debut against Aston Villa.

But only five Premier League goals have come in the 62 appearances since, and although goals are not a huge part of his game, other elements of his performance have left plenty to be desired too.

Work rate and fitness have regularly come under scrutiny from the Spurs faithful, and he has struggled to influence games on too many occasions.

The latter point was in sharp focus against League One Morecambe in the FA Cup earlier this month, when the stadium heckled him for slowly walking off when substituted after a lacklustre performance, while time was running out to clinch the victory.

Such criticisms could hardly have been predicted from his sparkling two-season spell with Lyon, who may now smirk at the hefty sum pocketed from Ndombele’s Spurs switch.

After less than three seasons with the club, he is reportedly closing in on an exit with his agent in ‘direct contact’ with PSG’s board.

At least according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that talks will continue, but real progress will only be made if the Parisians cave into Tottenham’s requirement.

Despite reportedly pocketing the same pay packet as Harry Kane, Spurs have demanded that PSG cover all of the midfielder’s wages between now and the end of the campaign.

Although the Parisians are a supremely wealthy the club, the prospect of forking out £200,000-a-week could certainly make them think twice about taking the 25-year-old off Tottenham’s hands.

It remains to be seen whether an option, or obligation to buy clause will be included in the prospective loan deal, but the north London side would surely be keen if they were able to recoup a chunk of his mammoth transfer fee.

Manager Antonio Conte is yet to make any significant signings this month, although Ndombele’s departure could signify the first step in a gradual team rebuild.

The second may be the arrival of Wolves winger Adama Traore, who Conte supposedly sees as an option at wing-back.

Emerson Royal, who arrived for big money during the summer, has failed to impress since signing from Barcelona, particularly in the attacking third.

As a natural winger, and even someone who has featured up top, Traore could well be a good fit in north London if they manage to tempt Wolves into doing business.

Sky Sports claim that personal terms are not an issue, but Wolves may stand firm on their £25m valuation.
