Thomas Tuchel to almost double his net worth with whopping Chelsea payout

Thomas Tuchel might be unemployed right now but he has just doubled his net worth after Chelsea sacked him on Wednesday morning.

The German lost his 100th game in charge of the Blues against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night in the Champions League. That turned out to be the last time the 49-year-old would manage the west London club, though the decision appears to have been made even before their woes in Croatia.

Chelsea new owner Todd Boehly has acted swiftly to axe Tuchel just days after the transfer window – where the American forked out over £250million in fees for players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling and Wesley Fofana.

However, the LA Dodgers chief will have to fork out big money to cut Tuchel's contract short – £15m to be precise, according to the Daily Mail. The former Paris Saint-Germain manager is currently worth just over £17m.

It means that Boehly's decision to axe his manager is set to nearly double his total net worth. Not a bad way to lose your job.

And the spending does not stop for the Blues owner, who has identified Graham Potter as his ideal choice to take over from Tuchel. However, the Brighton manager's buyout clause stands at £10m.

Boehly will also likely be dismissing Tuchel's staff, including assistant coach Arne Michels, which could see the total outlay grow further. And that does not take into consideration what staff changes Potter will like, should he get the job.

Other managers in the frame include Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently without a job after being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain last season. Zinedine Zidane is also being linked but the Real Madrid legend has his sights set on the France post, should it become available.
