Sunderland are reportedly set to sign Jobe Bellingham from Championship rivals Birmingham after agreeing a £3million fee for the younger brother of Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed a breakout campaign having made 26 appearances for Birmingham.

Bellingham had largely been used from the bench, but started the final four matches of the Championship season.

Sunderland have reportedly won the race to sign Bellingham, with several clubs having expressed an interest due to his contract expiring at the end of next season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Black Cats have convinced the midfielder of their project, with Bellingham expected to undergo a medical before joining the club.

Jobe Bellingham is expected to complete a £3million move from Birmingham to Sunderland

Bellingham, 17, is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days to complete the move

‘Born in 2005, Jude’s brother says yes to club project as best step — deal has been agreed on £3m fee to Birmingham City,’ Romano tweeted.

‘Bellingham will travel to Sunderland for medical tests in the next 10 days.’

The potential deal would represent a boost for Sunderland after the club suffered play-off heartbreak this week.

The Black Cats were beaten 2-0 in the second leg of their play-off semi-final with Luton, which saw the Hatters win 3-2 on aggregate.

Bellingham has featured six times at youth level this season for England across Under-18 and 19 age groups.

The teenager has long had admirers in the Bundesliga, including at Jude’s club Dortmund.

Bellingham will look to enjoy similar success to Jude, who rose through the ranks at the Birmingham’s academy to join the senior side in 2019.

Jude signed for Dortmund for £25m in 2020, with the 19-year-old having since emerged as a star for both club and country.

Real appear to have fought off competition from Liverpool, Man City and Man United.
