Solskjaer sends message to Man Utd board after Man City Premier League title win

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer called for Manchester United chiefs to invest in the playing squad in the summer if they want to compete with Manchester City next season.

United’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester on Tuesday night confirmed City as Premier League champions – Pep Guardiola’s third title in four seasons.

City’s closest challengers were local rivals United but there was little doubt they would cruise to the title and they ultimately got the job done with three games to spare.

Solskjaer admitted his squad lacks the depth of their noisy neighbours and he sent a clear message that he wants the board to address that this summer.

‘If you want to take up the challenge with them we need to strengthen our squad,’ he told BT Sport.

‘Congratulations to them. They have had a fantastic season.

‘I am very pleased with my boys that have made it to the last 10 days with a Manchester City side ahead of us that are lauded as the best in Europe.

‘We want to take the next step and it might be that we need a couple more to strengthen the squad.’

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers also offered his congratulations to the Premier League champions.

‘Congratulations to Pep and his team,’ said Rodgers. ‘They are a wonderful team.

‘They are in the Champions League final, they are champions in England and they clearly deserved it.’
