Sofyan Amrabat’s comments after Man Utd beat Crystal Palace speak volumes

Sofyan Amrabat showed his selfless nature after revealing he told Erik ten Hag he would play anywhere to help Manchester United. The midfielder made his full debut for the Red Devils as a makeshift left-back in Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

Amrabat performed well in the unnatural role during the comfortable triumph. The Fiorentina loanee was given the freedom to drift into midfield to create an overload when United had possession.

United tried all summer to sign Amrabat and finally secured a temporary deal on the final day of the transfer window. And Ten Hag appears to have added an excellent personality to his squad after it emerged that Amrabat has offered to play wherever he is needed.

“Since I was a child, I worked hard for this, I worked very hard for this my whole career, my whole life,” the 27-year-old told Sky Sports. “It’s amazing to play here. I told the manager I will play wherever the team needs me, even if it’s a goalkeeper.

“I will play wherever the team needs me. Today it was left-back, but today I had a bit of a free role. But it was nice, it was good. At the moment I am not at my best.

“I think it’s normal because I did not have a perfect pre-season because of my little injury. I trained the last two weeks very hard to be here again and 100 per cent as soon as possible.”

United cruised into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with victory over a lacklustre Palace side. Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial all scored to record successive victories for the Red Devils.

But it was also an important night for Amrabat as he completed his full recovery from injury to start for his new club for the first time. United boss Ten Hag was impressed by his display, especially in an unfamiliar role.

“Sofyan is a player – and that is one of the reasons we signed him – where the team needs him, he will play and he can play in more positions.”

United face Palace again on Saturday, with the Eagles making another trip to Old Trafford in the Premier League.
