Six transfers that were blocked by WAGs including Thomas Muller to Man Utd

Footballers are used to a change of scenery, after all, their careers can take them all over the world.

Lutz Pfannenstiel isn't the most well-known footballer, but he holds the distinct achievement as, reportedly, being football's most travelled player.

In a career that spanned almost three decades, the German took in the sights of Finland, Bradford, and Namibia during his spells at 25 separate clubs.

However, Pfannenstiel may not have had his unique tour of the world had his wife stood in the way.

And Daily Star Sport is looking at six WAGs who blocked their partners move to a new club.

Thomas Muller to Man Utd

Twice Louis van Gaal moved to bring Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich to Manchester United, and twice he failed.

Van Gaal revealed to BILD : "In 2015 it would have been possible if his wife had been a little more open to a transfer abroad.

"At least that was the reason Thomas gave my assistant Marcel Bout, who had had all the conversations with him, why the transfer had been rejected."

Muller's wife, Lisa, stopped the German from making the £84million move.

Mauro Icardi to Newcastle

Mauro Icardi and his wife, Wanda Icardi, have hit the headlines in recent months due to their rollercoaster romance.

More than just a blonde bombshell, Wanda doubles up as Icardi's agent, and she once blocked a proposed move to Newcastle United.

A source told Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport: "Leaving Paris is not in Mauro and Wanda’s plans, it’s the last thing they want."

Icardi remains in the French capital, and new-money Newcastle have been forced to look elsewhere to help their ongoing relegation battle.

Olivier Giroud to Everton

Olivier Giroud is perhaps one of the most underrated strikers in the Premier League.

And in 2017, with his game-time at Arsenal slipping, Merseyside based club Everton, but Sam Allardyce, then in the hot seat, revealed it was Giroud's wife Jennifer that stopped the move.

“He [Giroud] doesn’t want to move north of London, I don’t think. Or his wife doesn’t. It is very important to the wives you know,” said Allardyce.

“Normally they are the bosses, I say that with experience.”

Robert Lewandowski to PSG

Lewandowski is no stranger to having transfers blocked due to outside influences: he infamously was unable to complete a move to Blackburn Rovers thanks to an Icelandic volcano.

However, there were also rumours that he turned down a move to PSG because of his stunning wife.

But the Polish attacker quickly squashed the rumours: "Yes, I have already had the opportunity to sign with clubs in France in the past.

"My wife does not want to go to Paris? No, I've never heard anything so stupid. That has nothing to do with this, sometimes there are many parameters."

Sergio Ramos to Man Utd

Sergio Ramos and Real Madrid seemed to be a match made in heaven, and the defender spent the majority of his career at the Bernabeu.

However, Ramos finally packed his bags and moved to France over the summer.

But it could have been United.

Reportedly, the North West of England didn't appeal to Ramos' stunning wife, and TV presenter, Pilar Rubio.

Zinedine Zidane to Man Utd

What is it with Manchester?

Zinedine Zidane's wife, Veronique, is the third WAG on this list to turn down the grey clouds of England's northern capital.

United had hoped to woo Zidane to Old Trafford as a replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskajer when he was dismissed in November.

Numerous updates suggested that Zidane's wife wasn't keen on the idea of Manchester, instead preferring her husband to take a longer break.
