Sergio Rico’s wife begs ‘don’t leave me’ in heartbreaking plea to PSG ace in ICU

Sergio Rico's wife has issued a heartbreaking plea with the PSG goalkeeper still in intensive care.

Rico, 29, was seriously injured after colliding with a runaway horse in his native Spain at the weekend. Local reports claim he fell to the ground from one he was riding before being kicked in the head several times.

He was airlifted to the Virgen del Rocio Hospital in Seville and has been in the ICU since. His wife Alba Silva, with whom he shares a young son, has been by his side and posting updates for fans on social media.

Her latest Instagram post today (May 30) gut-wrenchingly read: "Don’t leave me alone, my love, because I swear I cannot. I don’t know how to live without you. We love you a lot."

Alba, who married Rico last year, last night wrote: "Thank you for all the love you have for us. Sergio has a lot of people praying for him and he is very strong. I have no words to describe what I feel."

Rico was on the bench for PSG as they clinched the Ligue 1 title with a 1-1 draw away at Strasbourg on Saturday. He then returned to his homeland to make a horseback pilgrimage journey to Huelva from Seville on Sunday morning.

The former Fulham loanee and one-time Spain international was reportedly thrown to the ground by the horse he was riding when it got spooked around 8.30am local time.

A family statement on Sunday said: "After a little over an hour and a half with his family and friends, he was heading to High Mass by the hermitage at El Rocio when he suffered an accident because of a cart with mules and a runaway horse that struck him.

"Sergio is in good hands, fighting to get better while he receives the best care from the medical team at Virgin del Rocio Hospital. We must act with precaution, especially in the next 48 hours.

"We are awaiting the results of his medical evolution which we hope will be favourable so we are able to tell you about his improvement as soon as possible."
