Salah ripped to shreds by fans after old tweet reappears after Liverpool lose

Mohamed Salah has been savaged by fans online after the Liverpool star's old "score to settle" tweet came back to haunt him after Saturday night's Champions League final defeat.

Real Madrid battled to a 1-0 win against Jurgen Klopp's side at the Stade de France, with Vinicius Jr bundling home the winner on the hour mark. The Reds had headed into the big match hoping to clinch a seventh European Cup, but instead, had to watch Los Blancos land a record-extending 14th European crown.

The result means that Liverpool have been bested by Real Madrid in the Champions League final twice in four years after the Spanish giants also came out on top in the 2018 final – something that the Reds were keen to avenge.

No-one was more determined to avenge that previous defeat than Salah, who was forced off with an injury in Kyiv. He even alluded to that earlier this month by tweeting: "We have a score to settle."

But unfortunately for the Reds talisman, his tweet came back to haunt him – and fans wasted no time in savaging the 29-year-old after Liverpool's defeat. One fan quote-tweeted Salah's post with a picture of the final score from Saturday night match and the caption: "This is awkward," while another cheekily claimed: "He froze he hasn't moved since that tweet."

Another fan quipped: "You take your time with that Mo," while another reacted by brutally posting: "You didn’t settle s*** mate," complete with a hat-trick of laughing emojis.

Despite falling at the final hurdle, Klopp backed his boys to bounce back from their disappointment – and even quipped that Liverpool fans should 'book the hotel' in Istanbul, the destination of next year's Champions League final.

The Reds chief said: "It feels different. It's not bad to get to the final. It's a kind of success. Not the success you want to have.

"I have a strong feeling we'll come again. The boys are really competitive. It's an outstanding group together. We will have an outstanding group next season. Where is it next season? Istanbul? Book the hotel."
