Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham set for contract talks with Ben Foster after promotion

Wrexham are set to hold contract talks with Ben Foster to find out if he wants to continue playing in League Two.

The veteran former Premier League goalkeeper, 40, only signed a short-term deal until the end of the season after No. 1 Rob Lainton was ruled out with injury in March.

He helped get the Red Dragons' promotion push over the line in his eight appearances, most notably saving a 97th-minute penalty in their crunch National League clash with Notts County last month to put them in pole position for the title.

And he not only brings copious amounts of experience, but also a thriving YouTube channel and podcast with over 1million subscribers which brings more eyes on the club.

So it's no surprise Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney want him to extend his stay.

As part of their released and retained list, the club statement read: "A discussion will take place with Ben Foster to establish if his intention is to return to retirement or continue playing."

Foster hinted he could stay on board for their return to the Football League after they clinched the title by beating Boreham Wood in their second to last game of the campaign. He asked Reynolds: "Shall we do it again next year?"

Speaking on the Fozcast before the final game against Torquay, he said: "I don't really know yet, I really really don't know yet. I'm really going to have to sit down and think about this now."

Wrexham have released 11 players from their squad, including defender Harry Lennon who has retired aged just 28 due to injuries.

They've also extended the deals of star striker Paul Mullin, goalkeeper Mark Howard and winger Anthony Forde for another season, and will exercise the option to extend the contracts of Scott Butler and Aaron James too.
