Robbie Savage tells Jesse Lingard to claim Luke Shaw’s Man Utd goal

Jesse Lingard is enduring a dry patch in front of goal at the minute, meaning it was no surprise to see the Manchester United midfielder try and claim Luke Shaw’s goal in their 3-0 win away at Derby last night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals at Pride Park, with Shaw’s strike and an Odion Ighalo brace condemning United legend Wayne Rooney to defeat against his former side.

It was Shaw who opened the scoring on the night, producing a half-volley from the edge of the box that bounced over Kelle Roos’ head and into the back of the net.

However, Lingard believes the goal should be his after replays showed the ball brushed his shoulder on its way into the net.

Shaw was having none of it after the victory, telling BT Sport: “I am claiming it! No chance, he can't claim that! Whatever happens I am claiming it.

“But the most important thing is the win and another clean sheet for the boys.

“We are in a very confident period. We are scoring and keeping it out at the back. It's a massive game on Sunday [against Man City], we are looking forward to that one.”

Yet Robbie Savage believes the goal should be Lingard’s, saying in the studio: “If I was Lingard I'd be claiming that.”

Lingard played the full 90 minutes against Derby, helping United set up an FA Cup quarter-final clash with Norwich.

Yet the England international found himself subjected to sickening abuse from one of his own fans as he made his way onto the team bus afterwards.

In a clip that circulated on social media last night, one supporter shouts at Lingard: “F*** off, Jesse”, “Jesse, you're s***” and “you're w*** Jesse”.

Another fan mocks Lingard over the fact he is yet to register a goal or assist in the Premier League this year.

The 27-year-old has only netted two goals in 15 appearances this season, coming in the Europa League and the FA Cup.

He only has 16 months remaining on his current Old Trafford contract, meaning Solskjaer has just one transfer window remaining to cash in on him.
