Rio Ferdinand makes big Man Utd claim about Man City – ‘I don’t see it happening’

Rio Ferdinand cannot see where Manchester United will lose their next game after they extended their unbeaten run to nine matches on Thursday. United beat Derby County 3-0 in the FA Cup fifth round and will play Norwich in the quarter-final later this month. Two goals from Odion Ighalo and one from Luke Shaw sealed a comprehensive victory.

United have now not lost in any competition since being beaten by Liverpool on January 19.

Next up United play rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday in the Premier League.

After the Derby win, BT Sport host Humphrey said to Ferdinand: “Unbeaten in nine, it has to end at some point.”

But Ferdinand disagreed, responding: “I don’t see it happening.

“I think Manchester United are in a good vein of form, I think Ole’s been looking for this consistency and they’re in that good run at the moment, which is fantastic to see.”

Former Derby midfielder and United academy graduate Robbie Savage said it was a satisfactory night for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“Job done,” Savage said.

“It would have been a tricky test for them but they’ve come here, three goals, Ighalo with a double, Luke Shaw good performance once again, he’s building with good performances.

  • Man Utd fans send Bruno Fernandes message to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

“So yeah a good night for Manchester United.”

Ighalo scored his second and third goals for United since his January loan from Shanghai Shenhua.

The former Watford man was delighted to help his new team into the FA Cup quarter-final.

“I am happy to be around this game team, great lads and great manager, I am happy and we are working hard,” he said.

  • Man Utd fans want Wayne Rooney to replace Jesse Lingard

“We know we need to win the game to go through to do important things this season and end the season well. The start was not the best we can do but after 20-25 minutes we got into the game.

“I used my strength and I am happy the ball went in. For the second, they blocked it then there is nothing I can do apart from shoot.

“I had another shot but did not connect well but the most important thing is that we won.

“We want to keep the momentum going and make sure we do great this season.”

Shaw’s goal appeared to go in off Jesse Lingard but the left-back says it was his.

He said: “I am claiming it! No chance, he can’t claim that! Whatever happens I am claiming it.

“But the most important thing is the win and another clean sheet for the boys. We are in a very confident period. We are scoring and keeping it out at the back. Massive game on Sunday, we are looking forward to that one.”
