Rio Ferdinand highlights Edinson Cavani "worth" off the pitch for Man Utd

Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United's front three to spend time learning off veteran striker Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan arrived at Old Trafford on a free having been released by PSG at the end of last season.

Cavani has enjoyed a stellar career but is now in the twilight years of his career at 33.

Nevertheless his quality was evident as he scored two, including the winner, in United's comeback win at Southampton on Sunday.

The striker's movement has come in for plenty of praise and Ferdinand has claimed that having him in and around the training pitch simply to help Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial improve makes him a worthy addition.

"The amount that Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will learn off this guy and his movement alone is unbelievable," Ferdinand told the FIVE YouTube channel.

"It’s worth having him just for that to improve these boys but they’ve got to be willing to learn. They’ve got to want to learn.

"They’ve got to look at Edinson Cavani and say: ‘I want that in my game. How am I going to do that? Analysis man at the club can you give me some videos of Cavani’s movement?’

"That’s the type of stuff you’ve got to do to improve. Self-analyse, self-reflect. Look a yourself. Who can I learn from? He’s the man.

"Over 200 goals at PSG listen, he knows what to do. I’d be tapping into that massively."

Martial is the eldest of United's front three at 24-years-old which highlights the youthful nature of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Greenwood is yet to celebrate his 20th birthday and while all three have obvious talent Cavani's experience is certainly something they can benefit from.

The Uruguayan has now scored in his two away Premier League outings having notched late on at Everton.

Cavani has scored 356 times during his career with his season best tally coming when he bagged 49 goals for PSG in 2016/17.
