Reece James has been one of Chelsea's standout performers so far this season, scoring an incredible four goals from the right-wing back position and contributing with five assists in the Premier League.
With Ben Chilwell already out with a lengthy injury, the last thing that Thomas Tuchel needs is another setback, but James hobbled off prematurely against Brighton while covering Chilwell's position.
Chelsea fans began to fear the worst as James was seen leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches after their 1-1 draw with Brighton, with a crunch clash against Liverpool on January 2.
And now the Chelsea defender has broken his silence and offered an injury update.
James posted a lenghty Instagram update following his injury, and also signed off on what has been an incredible 2021 for the England international, and teased fans into thinking that his condition may not be as bad as first feared.
The defender said: : "Page 365 of 365. Thank you 2021. This year has taught me to not postpone enjoyment. Any opportunity in front of you to enjoy yourself, take it with both hands.
"I’ve had many highs & lows this year which I always expect in both life & football. This year has personally been my best and most enjoyable, achieving my dreams of lifting the Champions League, Super Cup and also representing England in a major tournament.
"Unfortunately, I’m ending the year with disappointment having picked up an injury on Wednesday. Hoping it’s nothing too major. I’ll be working as hard as possible to get back on the pitch soon doing what I love.
"Wishing you all nothing but peace, happiness and good health going into 2022! Let’s make 2022 a year to remember."
The length of his injury remains unknown, but it's almost certain that James will not be available for their match against Liverpool, leaving a worried Tuchel with 'no wing-backs'.

Tuchel admitted that his squad is stretched following the injury to James, and suggested that he will have to find players to fill the roles required against Liverpool.
Following their 1-1 draw to Brighton, Tuchel said on Prime Video: "We can try to find players who are ready to play. We have no more wing-backs, everybody injured. Players coming back from Covid and playing, playing, playing."
Similarly to Jurgen Klopp, Tuchel is also unhappy with the stacked festive period that is only a tradition in England, but the two managers will both be wondering who to select when they face one another in the coming days, with multiple players out on both sides.
