Reading boss Ruben Selles and head of football operations Mark Bowen have forfeited their wages until staff at the club receive their November pay in full.

The League One crisis club prioritised paying its players last week to avoid another points deduction but staff only received 50 per cent of their monthly wage.

‘There was not enough funding coming into the club this month to pay the wages in full,’ Bowen said.

‘The chief executive made a decision to pay the players and stop us getting another points deduction and there was a percentage paid to the rest of the staff. Myself and Ruben decided we would forfeit all our wages until the staff are paid in full.

‘We’ve been told the funds will arrive and everything will be settled by early next week.’

Reading have been deducted four points this season and a total of 16 points over the last three seasons.

Reading fans staged another protest against their owner Dai Yongge live on ITV during the 2-1 FA Cup defeat at non-league Eastleigh on Sunday.

A series of points deductions and unpaid wages from the club have left them in turmoil, with the former Premier League side destined for relegation to League Two.

The supporters launched tennis balls and fake money onto the field in Hampshire during the 16th minute of the game, causing a lengthy delay as stewards cleaned up the mess.

Yongge is in the process of selling the club and is in talks with Luxembourg-based hedge funders Genevra Associates.
