Rangnick warns Pogba return could take another month

Ralf Rangnick warns it will be at least another month until Paul Pogba is match fit to return from his thigh injury as Man United interim boss reveals they spoke on the phone with French midfielder set to fly back from Dubai

Ralf Rangnick has warned that Paul Pogba could be sidelined for at least another month as he rebuilds his match fitness following a thigh injury.

The French midfielder has been rehabilitating in Dubai but spoke to Rangnick on the phone on Tuesday and is due to return to Manchester imminently.

But the Manchester United interim manager warned that Pogba cannot be rushed back into team until he has not only regained full match fitness but got up to speed with his way of playing.

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has revealed he has spoken to Paul Pogba on the phone as the midfielder continues his rehabilitation from a thigh injury in Dubai

Pogba suffered the injury in a training session with France last month and will be sidelined for at least another month before he regains full match fitness

Speaking ahead of United’s trip to Norwich City on Saturday night, Rangnick said: ‘We spoke over the phone on Tuesday and he was still in Dubai. He is expected to come back today and then we get to know each other in person on Sunday.

‘We had a telephone call for 10-15 mins he is getting better but obviously still not not fully fit.

‘It will take another couple of weeks until he is fit for training again and then of course he has been out for quite some time so I suppose it will take another couple of weeks to get him match fit.

‘In the first instance, it is important he gets fully fit in order to be able to train with the rest of the group and then we have to develop him physically and tactically to be also fit to play in the Premier League.’

Pogba, 28, suffered the injury after kicking a ball in training with France on November 8 ahead of their final two World Cup qualifiers.

It was initially thought Pogba would miss a minimum of six weeks and he has spent part of his rehab in the United Arab Emirates with a fitness coach.

Pogba, into the final year of his United contract with no indication he will agree to a new one, started off the season in fine form.

He registered seven assists in United’s first four Premier League games but his form tailed off just like the team’s generally as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.
