Raheem Sterling ‘melts heart’ of reporter whose mum’s suffering with dementia

Raheem Sterling was gifted a special present from a reporter's mum who suffers from dementia.

The Chelsea star recently sat down with Carrie Brown who in 2022 opened up about her parents suffering with dementia and said that following England's win over Iran in the World Cup, Sterling and Newcastle ace Kieran Trippier spotted her chatting to her mum and dad on a Zoom call.

The Premier League duo ended up talking to the reporter's parents in a special moment that stuck with Brown which she let Sterling know during their latest meeting. She gifted the 28-year-old a painting of a sunflower that was drawn by her mum in a frame that also included the Daily Star Sport article back in December 2022 of when Sterling and Trippier joined Brown's call to her parents.

The former Manchester City winger took a closer look at the painting during the interview as Brown said on X: "I did politely say to Raheem after (because I’m a recovering sentimental hoarder).. You really don’t have to keep it. The care home would just love a photo of you with it. Rather sweetly Raheem asked if he could keep it."

Former Sky Sports presenter, Natalie Sawyer, responded to her post and said: "This is delightful Carrie" to which Brown replied: "Bless him! Properly melted my heart when he said he’d keep it."

Back in 2022, she spoke to beIN SPORTS about the wonderful moment when she had the two England stars chat to her parents. "My parents have dementia and there is only one hour in a day where I can really get them on a Zoom call because the care home can only have the time to get that with them when they are quite with it," she said.

"So I showed her the pitch and the England dugout and she still wasn't convinced and so I took her into the flash area where we interview them and I showed her the sign for Qatar and I just looked over my shoulder and some of the players were down in the tunnel.

"It was really dark but I said: 'you can probably see there's some players' and Raheem Sterling came to look in my screen to see who it was and waved and when he realised it was my mum and dad in a care home he got Kieran Trippier over and they waved and they engaged.

"They'll never forget the day that Raheem and Kieran spent some time with their care home and that will stay with me longer than I think any goal in this tournament."
