Player ratings from Man City’s Carabao Cup final win over Aston Villa
Manchester City won the Carabao Cup for the third successive season with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at Wembley.
Sergio Aguero opened the scoring early in the piece before Rodri doubled City's lead in controversial circumstances.
He headed home from a corner, but replays showed the set-piece should have never been awarded and a goal kick should have been given instead.
Mbwana Samatta gave Villa hope by pulling one back before the break, but City hung on for victory, needing Claudio Bravo to tip a goalbound effort on to the post in the dying minutes.
Here are the full player ratings from Wembley…
Man City
Bravo 6
Last year’s cup final hero, made a huge save near the end.
Walker 6
Better performance, restricted Villa down his flank. Good.
Stones 5
Fell over in build-up to Villa’s goal. Nothing goes right for him.
Fernandinho 7
With Laporte out, looks City’s best centre half. That’s quite damning.
Zinchenko 6
There’s rashness about him, but he’s still safer than Mendy.
Rodrigo 7
Booked. Scored with towering header. Took one for the team with yellow.
Gundogan 6
Provided the corner for Rodri’s goal, busy but hooked early.
Foden 8
MotM. Exceptional in the first half, good overall, big performance.
D Silva 7
If this is his final season in England then we’ll miss him so much.
Sterling 6
Booked. Got yellow after a ding-dong with Guilbert. His pace important.
Aguero 7
Fabulous goal scorer, City better with him. Took some blows and hobbled off.
Substitutes
De Bruyne, for Gundogan, 58 mins, 7
Bernardo, for Silva, 76 mins

Aston Villa

Not to blame on goals. Deserved this after semi final heroics.
Guilbert 6
Entertaining battle with Sterling, stuck to his task quite well.
Engels 7
Made some good blocks, read danger and was solid in defence.
Mings 7
An absolute warrior for Villa, you can’t fall to respect his example.
Targett 6
Did a job down the left, both as wing back and fun back. Solid.
Luiz 6
His shock of blonde hair makes him stand out. Decent on the ball.
