Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang led the players heading to the Africa Cup on Nations on Wednesday as the Gabon forward looks to move on from the debacle that saw him stripped of the Gunners captaincy.

Aubameyang had been frozen out of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad after three disciplinary breaches – and is hoping to put his troubled spell behind him by performing for his national side as captain.

The 32-year-old posted a picture of himself travelling to play in the tournament on the plane, posing with a backwards baseball cap and including emojis of a plane and the Cameroon flag.

Fellow Premier League star Sadio Mane was also seen jetting off to Cameroon, taking his own picture on board his flight with Senegal team-mates, writing ‘Cameroon… see you soon’ on his Instagram story.

The Liverpool forward was smiling while his team-mates gave the thumbs up in the background as they gear up to make a quick start at the tournament with the team one of the favourites to win the trophy.

Mo Salah, meanwhile, is already in Cameroon and showed himself settling into his new surroundings as he enjoyed an evening with the Egypt squad.

The Liverpool star put a picture on his own Instagram story of himself sitting next to fellow Egypt players Ahmed Hegazi, Mahmoud Kahraba and Aston Villa’s Mahmoud Trezeguet at a dinner table, with all four beaming – looking in a confident mood as they look to defend their AFCON title.

Earlier this week Salah had uploaded a photo of himself heading off to Cameroon on a flight with Egypt players, laughing as he crept up behind a sleeping Aston Villa star Mahmoud Trezeguet.

Salah and Mane will both be big misses for Liverpool in January, with Jurgen Klopp suffering a double blow as he looks to keep his side’s title hopes alive.
