Omar Rekik insists he fits Arsenal perfectly and didn’t think twice about move
Omar Rekik is ready to bring a “winning” attitude to Arsenal after arriving from Hertha Berlin.
The Tunisia international, 19, has signed for the Gunners and will team up with their Under-23s side.
Arsenal have paid around £500,000 to land the highly-rated centre-half.
Per Mertesacker identified Rekik as a target for the club, and he is now preparing for life in north London.
Mikel Arteta missed out on a deal in the summer transfer window, but he has now brought in the defender, who will look to impress in the second half of the campaign.
Discussing his approach to football, Rekik insisted: "I’m a winner. I always want to win, and that’s with everything.”
Arteta is still moulding the senior squad into his own after recent disappointing seasons under Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery.
Results this season show it will be a gradual road back to the top of the Premier League table, let alone Champions League qualification.
Implementing his footballing philosophy has been Arteta’s first mission as manager, and Rekik fits the bill it seems.
He added: “I’m a central defender and I like to play with the ball, I like to play out from the back, and I think this is also the structure of the club. It fits perfectly."
The excitement of playing for the Gunners is certainly something Rekik relishes.
When Arsenal came calling, the former Manchester City youth had to do little thinking before deciding where his future lied.
"When a club like Arsenal is interested, I don’t think anyone needs to think twice,” he continued.
"As a young player, you need to play somewhere where they’re not afraid to give you a chance and you can see a lot of youth players have broken through here, and I want to be the next one."
