Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Nemanja Matic has agreed new Man Utd deal
Nemanja Matic has agreed a new deal to stay at Manchester United .
And that represents a remarkable turn of fortune for the 31-year-old Serbian star who looked on his way out of Old Trafford earlier this season.
Matic, out of contract this summer, had been in talks with the club but it looked as if he would leave.
But United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Matic will remain at United saying: “He will stay here. Yeah, 100 per cent. We have agreed with him so he will stay.”
Signed by former United boss Jose Mourinho in a £40million deal from Chelsea in 2017, Matic had become a back-up to the first choice defensive midfield pairing of Fred and Scott McTominay.
But in the two months McTominay was out injured, Matic proved his value to help United over a difficult period and convince Soslkjaer he was worth a new contract.
Matic has played in 14 of United’s last 17 games and scored the winner the last time United met Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final at The Etihad in January before getting sent off.
