Non-league footballer in ‘critical condition’ after ‘severe head injury’
A non-league footballer from Bath City is in critical condition after a freak injury sustained on Tuesday evening (November 8).
Alex Fletcher collided into an advertising hoarding in the fifth minute of City's clash against Dulwich Hamlet in the National League South – England's sixth tier.
Emergency services were quick to the scene with Fletcher taken to hospital and the match abandoned.
Fletcher's parents said: "Unfortunately, Alex has sustained a serve head injury as a result of last night's events. He required emergency neurosurgery to stabilise his condition and was then admitted to intensive care where he remains in a stable but critical condition.

"Alex's family would like to thank everyone for their best wishes that have been sent."
Bath City added: "No further comments will be made at this stage, and we ask you all to respect the family's privacy.
"Everyone at Bath City is sending their unconditional love, strength and support to Alex and his loved ones.
Dulwich Hamlet said following the incident: "For now, the most important thing is the safety and recovery of Alex, and from everyone connected with Dulwich, we wish him a speedy and full recovery."
Fletcher signed for Bath City from Tiverton Town in January 2021, and he was named player of the year last season after scoring 19 goals.
The forward began his career at Plymouth – then spending time on loan at Torquay, Aldershot and Tiverton, who he joined permanently in 2020.
