Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has moved on a huge number of players from his squad during his two years in charge at the Emirates. But there could still be a host of current first-team squad members who are let go in 2022. Express Sport lists the Arsenal stars who could find themselves donning a different club’s shirt in 2022.

Bernd Leno

Leno will likely want to leave if his game time continues to be restricted.

He has been the third choice for Germany in recent times but is unlikely to keep that spot if Aaron Ramsdale continues to shine as the Arsenal No 1.

Leno’s contract expires in the summer of 2023 so Arsenal would likely look to cash in at the end of this season.

Mohamed Elneny

Elneny is out of contract at the end of the campaign so is likely to leave at some point.

If a club were to come in for him this month, Arsenal may listen to offers for the Egyptian.

Arteta likes Elneny but Arsenal need to move him on in order for the Gunners to head in the right direction.

Calum Chambers

Chambers is another player who sees his contract running down and therefore is likely to be on his way.

He has made just four appearances in all competitions so far this season, so it would not be a surprise to see a January exit for the versatile defender.

Like with Elneny, Arsenal would likely take what they can get for Chambers this month.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Maitland-Niles continues to be starved of regular game time under Arteta.

He publicly stated he wanted to leave Arsenal last summer but Arteta and Edu convinced him to stay.

But a loan move to Roma appears to be on the cards and a permanent exit at the end of the season is likely.

Pablo Mari

Arteta would likely only allow Mari to leave this month if Chambers stayed.

Reports have claimed Mari would like to return to Brazil, two years after leaving for the Gunners.

He is firmly the fourth-choice centre-back at the club and the return of William Saliba in the summer would only push him further down the pecking order.

Nicolas Pepe

Club-record signing Pepe has not started a Premier League match since October 18 last year.

He still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, so Arsenal could get a substantial fee for the 26-year-old.

However, they would do incredibly well to even get half of the £72million they paid Lille for him in 2019.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang’s future clearly looks to be away from Arsenal. Where that will be is anyone’s guess.

It is a sad ending for a player who almost single-handedly won the Gunners their record 14th FA Cup less than 18 months ago.

But Arteta will not put up with his lack of discipline anymore.

Alexandre Lacazette

Lacazette is out of contract at the end of the season but is unlikely to leave this month.

Arteta will want to keep the Frenchman until the summer, not least because he is the designated captain currently.

However, it appears unlikely he will extend his stay beyond this year.

Eddie Nketiah

Nketiah continues to reject any offers of a new contract.

Arsenal may therefore consider substantial offers for the former England under-21 international this month.

If not, they’ll have to attempt to persuade him to stay before his contract runs out in June.
