Newcastle have suffered a major blow in their pursuit of Dele Alli as Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly re-entered the race to sign the Tottenham midfielder. Spurs are apparently willing to sell the England international, who will be keen to kickstart his career, but it seems that PSG can offer a more enticing deal than the Magpies.
Injuries and a loss of form have seen Alli’s meteoric reputation fade in recent years.
The once teenage prodigy is now 25 and has struggled under successive Spurs managers.
Not since Mauricio Pochettino’s departure in 2019 has Alli frequently found the net. He has failed to hit double figures for goals since the 2016-17 season and has just 10 Premier League strikes in his last three campaigns.
And it seems a reunion with former boss Pochettino could be on the cards, despite links to heavy-spending Newcastle.

Alli was rumoured to be of interest to PSG last season but those reports appeared to subside.
Instead, Newcastle’s oil-rich owners appeared to be keen on a deal to add creativity to Eddie Howe’s midfield.
The £305million October takeover of the Tyneside club meant that a deal was possible even though Newcastle are 19th in the top-flight and face a tough battle to stay in the division.
However, according to 90min, PSG are prepared to offer players in a deal that could see Alli move to France. It would be a further blow to Newcastle, who, despite big promises from the new ownership, have only added Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood to their squad this month.
The Parisian side – managed by Pochettino since January 2021 – are looking to move on Gini Wijnaldum and Julian Draxler.
Both players have apparently been offered to Spurs in a loan proposal that would involve either Alli or Spurs team-mate Tanguy Ndombele going the other way.
Midfielder Wijnaldum has struggled for form since completing a free transfer to PSG from Liverpool in the summer.
The Dutchman let his contract run down at Anfield and linked up with the French side as a part of their star-studded free transfer summer haul, which also included Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi.
But Wijnaldum could be available having started just 11 Ligue 1 matches this season. So could Germany international Draxler, who finds Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe ahead of him in the PSG attacking pecking order.

Both players would add some much-needed quality to Spurs boss Antonio Conte’s side. The North Londoners have lacked drive and goals from midfield this season.
That was something club-record signing Ndombele was supposed to bring when Pochettino signed the Frenchman in 2019. However, his £57m arrival has failed to work out and a return to France would benefit all parties.
Spurs were poor in their 2-0 defeat by rivals Chelsea on Sunday and looked a long way off the Premier League title hopefuls.
Conte is hoping to restore the form that saw Spurs challenge for the league under Pochettino in 2016 and 2017, but has made clear that he needs heavy investment to do so.
