Mourinho has made £50million more than any other manager just from being sacked

Jose Mourinho made close to £100million just from being sacked in the Premier League, a new study has revealed.

Mourinho has enjoyed four separate spells in English football, the first coming when he rocked up at Chelsea in 2004 and famously branded himself "the Special One".

After winning back-to-back Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup, he was sacked in 2007 amid reports of a dispute behind the scenes with owner Roman Abramovich.

Six years later the Portuguese returned to Stamford Bridge and made them champions again in 2015, only for things to turn sour again very quickly.

During a calamitous defence of their crown, in which they were languishing near the relegation zone by Christmas, Abramovich dropped his bloodied axe on Mourinho once again.

It didn't take him long to seal a return to the English top flight, nevertheless, as the following summer Manchester United decided to hand him the Old Trafford reins.

Yet in spite of their League Cup and Europa League triumphs in his debut season, not to mention a second-place Premier League finish the following year, Mourinho suffered his typical third-season meltdown and was out of a job again by Christmas in 2018.

Tottenham came calling the following year, but that proved his most unfruitful post of the lot, failing to win any silverware before Daniel Levy delivered his P45 back in April.

Mourinho has been given the boot four times in the Premier League, and new research from 101 Great Goals shows he has almost collected £100million in compensation as a result.

According to their data, the former Real Madrid and Inter gaffer has raked in £97,674,480 from being sacked by Chelsea, United and Spurs.

That figure is just over £50million more than the manager with the second highest amount of Premier League compensation, Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino is said to have collected a staggering £45,806,849 from his dismissal as Spurs boss, which paved the way for Mourinho to take over.

Antonio Conte, who recently took over at the north London club, is third in the list after receiving £22,971,507 from his sacking at Chelsea, while Harry Redknapp has earned £20,395,803 in compensation from Portsmouth and Spurs.
