Mikel Arteta’s three-man transfer wishlist proves change to Arsenal’s philosophy

Mikel Arteta's three-man transfer wishlist for a Hector Bellerin replacement proves that Arsenal's transfer philosophy has changed under the Spanish manager.

Bellerin left the club for Real Betis in the summer after a decade in north London and Arteta is reportedly keen on an attacking full-back to replace him.

This new signing would compete with and provide an alternative approach to Takehiro Tomiyasu, who joined the club on deadline day to become the club's sixth signing, all of which were aged 23 or under.

This approach to new signings looks set to continue with Fichajes reporting that Arteta's three-man shortlist consists of a set of young homegrown talents.

The Spanish outlet reports that Arteta wants an attacking alternative to Tomiyasu, who has impressed since arriving from Bologna.

They also state that the club are ready to sell Cedric Soares in January in order to create space in the playing squad for a new arrival.

Arteta's three-man shortlist reportedly consists of England under-21 internationals Tariq Lamptey, James Justin and Max Aarons.

Brighton's Lamptey has recently returned from a serious hamstring injury that had kept him out since December last year.

Who should Arsenal bring in as an attacking option at right-back? Let us know in the comments section below.

The 21-year-old has impressed considerably since joining the Seagulls from Chelsea in January 2020 and would cost in excess of £20million with four years remaining on his contract.

Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with a move for him since he moved to the south coast.

Justin has also been sidelined with a serious injury having damaged his cruciate ligament in February and his return date from injury is currently unknown.

He had been on the cusp of an England call-up thanks to his Leicester performances and ability to play at both right-back and left-back.

The former Luton Town defender had been an ever-present in the league and Europa League before his injury and will likely command a similar fee to Lamptey.

21-year-old Aarons has been linked with a move away from Norwich City for over two years having broken into the team aged just 18.

Bayern, Spurs, Manchester United and Barcelona have all previously had an interest in the England under-21 international, as have Arsenal in past windows.

Fichajes report that he is set to request a transfer from the Canaries if they fail avoid a second relegation from the Premier League in three seasons.

Aarons will likely be the most expensive option on the shortlist due to the interest in him from all over Europe, he has also already made 137 first team appearances for Norwich.
