Mauricio Pochettino joined by PSG chief for late hotel meeting amid Man Utd link

Mauricio Pochettino remains a frontrunner for the Manchester United job despite his commitment to PSG – and he is currently in the city as his side prepare to take on their rivals at the Etihad.

PSG take on Manchester City on Wednesday evening looking to climb to the top of Group A in the Champions League, but players' attention might be elsewhere with their manager linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The former Southampton and Tottenham boss has been linked with a move to United on more than one occasion in the past, and was said to be keen on a swift return to the Premier League in the summer.

Pochettino replaced Thomas Tuchel at PSG back in January and led them to Coupe de France glory and a second-place finish in Ligue 1 – building an 11-point lead after 14 fixtures of 2021/22.

L'Equipe report that Leonardo travelled to Paris late on Monday evening, and went to the hotel that Pochettino has lived in since he took the job back in January.

They say that he wanted to 'take the pulse of the situation' and 'gauge his desires to leave', having previously insisted that his manager is going nowhere.

The report adds that although the Argentine does not appear keen to leave at first glance, it is likely that the situation will be revisited at the end of the season.

Pochettino said this week: “Before anything, I want to give my condolences to my assistant who lost his father yesterday. Thanks for being with me. Regarding my situation, I am concentrated on football.

"I’m not a child. I’ve spent my whole life as a player and manager hearing rumours. I understand what happens, sometimes in a positive way, sometimes in a negative way.

“It’s not a distraction, you have to live with it, that’s football. We are concentrated. We’re going to give it our all to do as well as possible.

“We’re not here to talk about that. I respect my club, PSG. What the other club does, doesn’t concern me. I won’t comment on it because everything I say or don’t will be used.

"When I was at Espanyol, I said that I wanted to meet Sir Alex [Ferguson]. If I say it again, it will be taken out of context.

“I am happy in Paris. I love the club, I love the supporters. Being at PSG is magnificent. We are in the lead in Ligue 1 and we are facing Manchester City.

“I thought I was clear. I said I had a contract until 2023. This season and the next. I’m happy at PSG, that’s a fact.”
