Manchester United have signed the perfect partner for Alejandro Garnacho

Erik ten Hag assesses impressive Alejandro Garnacho

Right now, Alejandro Garnacho is the golden boy of Manchester United. The 18-year-old marked his return from injury with a goal against Wolves on Saturday, boosting the Red Devils’ hopes of securing a return to the Champions League in the process. And, in Amad, it’s clear the club have already signed a player who can be the perfect partner for the Argentine in the coming years ahead.

Garnacho was given his debut by Ralf Rangnick towards the end of last season, coming off the bench in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

He then proceeded to experience some early teething problems under Erik ten Hag, who warned the youngster after he was late to team meetings on the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

Garnacho had to be patient during the early stages of the campaign, with his manager often going for experienced heads instead.

But since scoring in a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad, the teenager hasn’t looked back.

The 18-year-old is a superstar in the making and, on Saturday, scored his sixth goal for the club in a 2-0 victory over Wolves at Old Trafford.

Man Utd transfers: Ten Hag wants another Pogba and it makes sense

He was mobbed by team-mates in the aftermath and even received a pat on the head from Ten Hag, who had a big smile on his face.

Later on, Garnacho uploaded a picture of Amad on Instagram with a caption that read: “What a player.”

And with the Ivory Coast international shining on loan at Sunderland this season, he’s clearly an asset who can play alongside Garnacho in the coming years.

United signed Amad back in the January transfer window of 2021, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was manager.

But he’s struggled for regular game time at the club and has spent the past year or so on loan.

Amad did struggle playing for Rangers last season, fading after a bright start to life in Glasgow.

Yet he’s been a fantastic loan signing for Sunderland, driving the Black Cats’ quest to secure Premier League promotion.

Amad scored his 14th goal from 38 matches on Saturday, netting a sensational free-kick to put his side ahead in a 2-1 win over Luton.

And Ten Hag has been keeping track of the attacker’s progress, saying on Friday that the 20-year-old did have a future at the club.

“Yes, of course,” said the Dutchman when asked if Amad had a chance of being a regular at United.

“We loan such players to let them develop and make progress, to bring them back. That is the aim of a loan.

“We are really strong on them in the matter of the way we mentor them. We follow them and we have communication through all the season.

“Especially Darren Fletcher – he invests a lot in such processes and the aim is to bring them back as a better player and with better experience.”

As for Garnacho, meanwhile, Ten Hag has opened up on what the Argentine must improve on despite his heroics against Wolves.

“Making decisions, being aware, scanning situations, when to go one-on-one, get behind, when to go for goal or make an extra pass,” he stated on Saturday.

“Decisions like that are what makes a good player a top player – that is the difference.

“But when you see it overall, he’s a huge talent and very brave.

“It shows that the pathway is open for young players at United. And if you work in the right way, work hard, we can guide you to get into the team.

“But, in the end, it’s about the player – he has to invest and have a plan to do it.”
