Man Utd vs Man City player ratings as Wan-Bissaka stars in derby
Manchester United kept up the heat on fourth-placed Chelsea with victory at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side claimed bragging rights thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay to cut the gap to the Blues back to three points.
United took the lead with half an hour gone as Martial volleyed in from a free-kick.
Bruno Fernandes chipped a ball over the wall and Martial ran on before hitting a shot that Ederson allowed to go under his hand as he dived to his right.
City keeper Ederson almost gifted United a second when he made a hash of a back pass before hacking the ball to safety.
Sergio Aguero had the ball in the net after the break, but his effort was chalked off by the linesman.
McTominay put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time when he capitalised on another Ederson error.
Here's how they rated:
Manchester United
De Gea 6
A couple of decent stops but would have expected to be a lot busier
Wan-Bissaka 9
MOTM Relished his battle with Sterling and found plenty of time to charge forward
Lindelof 7
Goes about his business with quiet efficiency and never looked overly troubled
Maguire 6
Anything but assured early on but gradually stamped his authority on proceedings
Shaw 6
Looks as though he is enjoying his football as much as at any moment in recent times
Williams 7
Might have expected to be more of an attacking force but another mature outing
Fred 7
Booked. Continues to improve and impress and very harshly booked for simulation
Matic 6
A crucial early intervention when Aguero was about to pull the trigger typified his performance
Fernandes 7
Quick thinking for the first goal summed up his intelligent performance
James 6
Caused problems with his direct running but lacked a little composure
Martial 8
Always looked a threat and now has four goals in his last five games
Subs: Bailly (Williams 78mins), McTominay (Martial 78mins), Ighalo (Fernandes 88 mins)
Man City
Ederson 4
No excuses for allowing Martial’s shot to squirm in for United’s opener
Cancelo 5
Maintaining the Pep tradition of having defenders who are not fond of defending
Fernandinho 6
Booked. A performance to prove he is a fine player but not as fine centre-half
Otamendi 5
Remains an accident waiting to happen lucky to go unpunished for a couple of ricks
Zinchenko 6
Saw a lot of possession but did not use it productively on most occasions
Rodri 7
Booked. A physical presence at the heart of City’s midfield but little creativity
Foden 6
Isolated on the right flank on a rare Premier League start and too often a peripheral figure
Gundogan 7
Frustrated after giving away the free-kick that led to the opener but kept going
Bernardo Silva 6
Struggled to make an impact on proceedings and hooked on the hour mark
Sterling 6
Found Wan-Bissaka an ultra-tough opponent and got little joy throughout the game
Aguero 6
Started brightly and embarrassed Maguire but seemed to pick up a knock and subbed early
Subs: Jesus (Aguero 60mins) 6, Mahrez (Bernardo Silva 60mins) 6, Mendy (Zinchenko 78mins)
